WHAT'S ON TAP?

  • Saint Louis takes on the Grand Canyon Lopes in a marquee non-conference men's basketball matchup Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena.
  • This is the fourth game of five-game homestand to start the season for the Billikens. SLU completes the home stretch next Friday, Nov. 21, when Purdue Fort Wayne comes to Chaifetz Arena for a 7 p.m. tip.

FOLLOWING THE ACTION

  • Saturday's game will be televised on FanDuel Sports Network and simulcast on ESPN+. Tom Ackerman and Troy Robertson will call the action.
  • KMOX 1120 AM is the home for Billiken Basketball on the radio. Billiken Hall of Famers and longtime SLU men's basketball radio partners Bob Ramsey and Earl Austin Jr. will the call the action for all SLU games, both at home and on the road. Billiken Basketball sends a special salute to Rammer, who is in his 40th season as the radio voice of SLU hoops. Austin is in year No. 35.

NEWS & NOTES

  • The Billikens have defeated Southeast Missouri (92-67),  Chicago State (108-86) and Lindenwood (109-66) to open the season.
  • SLU has scored 90+ points in its first three games of a season for the first time in school history. Also, the Billikens have back-to-back 100-point games for the first time ever.
  • The Billikens lead the A-10 and rank No. 8 in the NCAA (through Nov. 13) in eFG% (.645). Their .559 team field-goal percentage is 12th nationally. Additionally, SLU's 103.0 ppg ranks No. 8 in the NCAA.
  • SLU has set Chaifetz Arena records so far this year in points vs. a DI opponent (109 vs. Lindenwood), team FG% (.667 vs. Lindenwood) and second-half points (66 vs. Lindenwood).
  • Six Billikens score in double figures, led by Amari McCottry's 16.3 ppg. He dropped a career-high 23 points against Lindenwood the last time out.
  • Robbie Avila scores 14.0 ppg and averages 6.0 rpg.  
  • Kellen Thames is third in the A-10 in steals per game (3.00). 
  • Ishan Sharma is third in the league in 3-point field-goal percentage (.588) and 3s made per game (3.33).
  • Senior center Robbie Avila has been named to preseason Watch Lists for the Naismith Trophy, Oscar Robertson Trophy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award. Last season he averaged 17.3 points and 6.9 rebounds. He led all centers in Division I in 3s made per game and assists per game. 
  • Billiken head coach Josh Schertz is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach. His .774 winning percentage ranks in the top 10 among active coaches in the NCAA.
  • Up next, the Billikens host Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. at Chaifetz Arena.

ABOUT GRAND CANYON

  • The Lopes enter Saturday's game 2-1 overall. They defeated Purdue Fort Wayne (90-71) and Northern Illinois (88-59), and fell to Youngstown State (90-81).
  • Nana Owusu-Anane averages 15.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists for the Lopes. He transferred to GCU from Brown, where he was a teammate of SLU's Kalu Anya there for two seasons. 
  • Transfer Jaden Henley, who played last season at UNLV, leads the Lopes in scoring with 16.7 ppg. Brian Moore Jr. (Norfolk State transfer) averages 12.0 ppg. Returnee Makaih Williams also scores in double figures with 11.3 ppg. 
  • Bryce Drew sixth season at Grand Canyon. Drew was the head coach at his alma mater, Valparaiso, during a home-and-home between the Billikens and Beacons in 2012 and 2013. SLU won both of those games. 
  • The Lopes are in their first season competing in the Mountain West Conference. They have made NCAA appearances each of the last three seasons and four of the last five years.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Grand Canyon won last year's meeting at Global Credit Union Arena 73-72. The Bills were down by as many as 13 and clawed back to take the lead late, but GCU scored in the final seconds for the win.
