McCottry Leads Balanced Effort in Win Over Grand Canyon

ST. LOUIS – Sophomore Amari McCottry drained 20 points and senior Dion Brown brought down a career-high 15 rebounds as Saint Louis rolled to a 78-64 victory over Grand Canyon Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena.

The Billikens improved to 4-0, while Grand Canyon fell to 2-2.

All players in the Billikens' main nine-man rotation scored. McCottry's 20 points comes on the heels of a career-best 23 points in his last outing. Tonight, he shot 8-of-13 from the field, dished out four assists and pulled down five rebounds.

Robbie Avila finished with 14 points, thanks in part to 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.

Brown added six points and three assists to his career-best 15 rebounds. Five of his rebounds came on the offensive glass.

Ishan Sharma and Brady Dunlap finished with eight points apiece. Paul Otieno had seven points, including a thunderous dunk on an alley-oop. Trey Green contributed seven points for the Bills and led SLU with a +26 plus/minus.

The Billikens shot 45.8 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range. They outscored the Lopes 34-22 in the paint.

The Billikens got off to a hot start from 3-point range and opened up a nine-point lead five minutes in. McCottry finished the first half with a 4-0 run for SLU as the Bills surged to a 38-29 advantage at the break.

Grand Canyon opened the second half on a 7-0 run to pull within two, but that is as close as the Lopes would get the rest of the way. The Billikens broke the game open with a 13-0 run in the second half and the game wasn't close again.

The Billikens host Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. at Chaifetz Arena.
