Avila a Candidate for the Wooden Award

LOS ANGELES – Saint Louis senior center Robbie Avila has landed on the Los Angeles Athletic Club's John R. Wooden Award Top 50 Watch List, the organization announced today.

In addition to being on the prestigious Wooden Award Watch List, Avila is on the Watch List for Naismith Trophy, is one of 50 candidates for the Oscar Robertson Player of the Year Trophy and was named a top 20 candidate for the Naismith Hall of Fame's Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, which is awarded to the NCAA's top center.

Avila is a preseason first-team All-Conference selection and was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Conference Preseason Player of the Year by Blue Ribbon. He averaged 17.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last season, leading all centers in Division I in 3s made per game and assists per game.

So far this season, Avila is averaged 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the Billikens.

Saint Louis (4-0) is back in action on Friday night when it hosts Purdue Fort Wayne at 7 p.m. at Chaifetz Arena.
