ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis senior center Robbie Avila was named to a pair of prestigious Watch Lists this week.
He is on the 50-player 2025-26 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Men's College Player of the Year Watch List. Also, the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced Avila as one of 50 candidates for the 2025-26 Oscar Robertson Player of the Year Trophy. Previously, he was named a top 20 candidate for the Naismith Hall of Fame's Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, which is awarded to the NCAA's top center.
Avila is a preseason first-team All-Conference selection and was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Conference Preseason Player of the Year by Blue Ribbon. He averaged 17.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last season, leading all centers in Division I in 3s made per game and assists per game.
In the Billikens' opener against Southeast Missouri on Monday night, Avila recorded a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. He hit a team-high 3-pointers as well as the Billikens rolled to a 92-67 win over the Redhawks.
Avila and the Billikens host Chicago State on Thursday at Chaifetz Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
