WHAT'S ON TAP?

  • Saint Louis hosts Bethune-Cookman at Chafietz Arena on Wednesday night. Game time against the Wildcats is scheduled for 7 p.m.
  • It is the second game of a hoops doubleheader at Chaifetz Arena. The SLU women's team kicks off the night by hosting Jacksonville State at 4 p.m. Men's basketball ticket holders can show their ticket for the women's game and may sit in GA seating.

TEDDY BEAR TOSS

  • Wednesday's game is the annual Teddy Bear Toss. All fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to Chaifetz Arena. At halftime, fans will be prompted to throw their stuffed animals onto the court. All items collected will be donated to Youth in Need.
  • Fans who bring a stuffed animal can get a free GA ticket to the men's game. Visit the Billiken Ticket Office at Gate B to pick up the free ticket.

FOLLOWING THE ACTION

  • Wednesday's game will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+. Colin Suhre and Matt Clark are on the call.
  • 104.1 FM / 1120 AM KMOX is the home for Billiken Basketball on the radio. Billiken Hall of Famers and longtime SLU men's basketball radio partners Bob Ramsey and Earl Austin Jr. will the call the action for all SLU games, both at home and on the road. Billiken Basketball sends a special salute to Rammer, who is in his 40th season as the radio voice of SLU hoops, and Austin who is in year No. 35. The duo were recently honored with the Burnes-Broeg at the Missouri Athletic Club's Jack Buck Awards.

NEWS & NOTES

  • At 9-1, the Billikens are off to the best start to a season since the 2011-12 team went 12-1. 
  • Saint Louis is 7-0 at Chaifetz Arena this season and has won 10 straight on its home floor dating back to last year.
  • The Billikens lead the A-10 in the following categories (NCAA rank in parenthesis): Free-throw percentage (2nd), fastbreak points per game (6th), scoring margin (13th), points per game (15th), FG% (26th), effective FG% (26th) and assists per game (38th).
  • The Bills are equally efficient on the defensive end. Opponents shoot just 37.5 percent against them, 12th in the NCAA. 
  • Saint Louis is fifth in the country in rebounding margin (+12.7) and fourth in the NCAA in defensive rpg (31.20).
  • Dion Brown leads the Billikens in scoring (12.6 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg). His .654 field-goal percentage leads the A-10 and ranks 13th nationally.
  • Robbie Avila leads SLU with 3.4 assists/game.
  • Trey Green (12.0 ppg) has hit at least one trey in every game and leads the Bills with 2.8 3s per game, second in the A-10.
  • SLU features a balanced scoring attack. Its top four scorers are separated by just six total points. Five Billikens score in double figures and seven  average 8.6 points or more. 
  • Amari McCottry and Quentin Jones have each earned A-10 Player of the Week honors this year.
  • Robbie Avila has been named to preseason Watch Lists for the Naismith Trophy, Oscar Robertson Trophy, Wooden Award and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award. Last season he averaged 17.3 points and 6.9 rebounds. He led all centers in Division I in 3s made per game and assists per game. 
  • Billiken head coach Josh Schertz is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach. His .775 winning percentage ranks No. 8 among active coaches in the NCAA.

ABOUT BETHUNE-COOKMAN

  • Bethune-Cookman University enters Wednesday's game 3-7 overall. The Wildcats are coming off an 82-60 loss at Missouri on Sunday.
  • Jacoby Heady leads the team in scoring with 15.6 ppg. He has drilled a team-best 16 treys on the year and shoots 51.6 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Arterio Morris (13.4 ppg), Daniel Rouzan (11.5 ppg) and Quentin Heady (10.2 ppg) also scored in double figures for Bethune-Cookman.
  • The Wildcats have played all but two games away from their home court. They took Auburn to overtime in the season opener before eventually falling by five.
  • Head coach Reggie Theus is in his fifth year at B-CU with a 58-81 record.

SERIES HISTORY

  • This is the third meeting between the Wildcats and Billikens.
  • The teams last met during the 2019-20 season, a 77-67 Billiken victory at Chaifetz Arena. Javonte Perkins scored a game-high 21 points and Jordan Goodwin had a 14-point/16-rebound double-double to lead the Bills.
  • SLU won 103-49 in the first meeting between the squads during the 1994-95 season. Carl Turner led the Bills with a then-career-high 23 points.
