ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis placed seven players in double figures and came within one 3-pointer of the school single-game record in a 112-53 rout of Bethune-Cookman Wednesday night at Chaifetz Arena.
The Billikens improved to 10-1, their best start to a season since the 2011-12 team began 12-1.
It was the fourth game this season that SLU scored 100 or more points, the most in program history. The 112 points are a season high, as is the 59-point victory margin.
The Bills connected on 17 3-pointers (17-of-29, 58.6 percent), one shy of the school mark, and tied a Chaifetz Arena record with 29 assists. SLU shot 62.5 percent (40-of-64) from the field overall.
The Billikens had seven players score in double figures for the first time since Jan. 30, 1995.
Trey Green, who was 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, led with 19 points, followed by
Dion Brown (16),
Ishan Sharma (14),
Paul Otieno (season-high 13),
Brady Dunlap (season-high 12),
Quentin Jones (11) and
Amari McCottry (10).
McCottry was 3-of-3 from 3-point range, while Sharma and Dunlap went 3-of-5.
Saint Louis out-rebounded Bethune-Cookman 48-29.
Jax Kerr grabbed a game- and career-high nine boards, Sharma (career high) and McCottry had seven apiece, and Otieno chipped in six.
Jones, Brown (season high) and
Robbie Avila (tied season high) had a game-high five assists apiece.
The Billikens held the Wildcats (3-8) to 27.4 percent (17-of-62) from the field overall and 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from distance.
Following a 2-2 tie, Green's first 3-pointer put Saint Louis in front to stay. His second triple set the lead in double figures for good, 15-4, at the 14:05 mark, and the Billikens went on to build a 56-22 halftime cushion. The final score was SLU's largest lead of the night.
