WHAT'S ON TAP?

  • Saint Louis concludes the nonconference schedule on Sunday when it hosts the Principia Panthers at Chaifetz Arena. Game time is 2 p.m. The game is part of a doubleheader with the women's team. The SLU women take on UHSP at 5 p.m.
  • The Billikens' Atlantic 10 Conference opener is set for Wednesday, Dec. 31, against Saint Joseph's at 3 p.m. at Chaifetz Arena.

FOLLOWING THE ACTION

  • Sunday's game will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+. Colin Suhre and Matt Clark are on the call.
  • 104.1 FM / 1120 AM KMOX is the home for Billiken Basketball on the radio. Billiken Hall of Famers and longtime SLU men's basketball radio partners Bob Ramsey and Earl Austin Jr. will call the action for all SLU games, both at home and on the road. Billiken Basketball sends a special salute to Rammer, who is in his 40th season as the radio voice of SLU hoops, and Austin who is in year No. 35. The duo were recently honored with the Burnes-Broeg at the Missouri Athletic Club's Jack Buck Awards.

  • At 11-1, the Billikens are off to the best start to a season since the 2011-12 team went 12-1.
  • Saint Louis is looking to extend the longest winning streak in Chaifetz Arena history, which currently sits at 12 games dating back to last season. 
  • SLU has scored 85 or more points in five straight games for the first time ever.
  • The Billikens lead the A-10 in the following offensive categories (NCAA rank): Fastbreak points per game (6th), scoring margin (10th), scoring offense (12th), free-throw percentage (13th), effective FG% (15th), FG% (21st), and assists per game (28th).
  • Defensively, opponents shoot just 37.3 percent against them, 10th in the NCAA. 
  • Saint Louis is fourth in the country in rebounding margin (+13.4) and sixth in the NCAA in rebounds per game (44.1).
  • Dion Brown leads the Billikens in scoring (13.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg). He is 14th in the NCAA in FG% (.646).
  • Robbie Avila leads the Billikens and all centers in NCAA Division I with 3.8 assists/game.
  • Avila is the only active player in NCAA Division I with at least 1,500 career points, 600 career rebounds and 350 career assists.
  • Trey Green (12.6 ppg) is second in the A-10 with 3.0 3-pointers per game.
  • Amari McCottry and Quentin Jones have each earned A-10 Player of the Week honors this year.
  • Robbie Avila has been named to preseason Watch Lists for the Naismith Trophy, Oscar Robertson Trophy, Wooden Award and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award. Last season he averaged 17.3 points and 6.9 rebounds. He led all centers in Division I in 3s made per game and assists per game. 
  • Billiken head coach Josh Schertz is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach. His .776 winning percentage ranks No. 8 among active coaches in the NCAA.

ABOUT PRINCIPIA

  • Principia College is located in Elsah, Illinois, near Alton. The Panthers play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) in NCAA Division III.
  • The Panthers are 2-9 on the season. Sunday's game counts as an exhibition game for Principia and a regular-season game for the Billikens.
  • Nolan Smith is the team's top scorer with 21.9 ppg. He also leads the Panthers in assists (3.1 per game) and steals (2.6 per game).
  • Mikhali Roberts contributes 14.5 ppg and a team-high 7.5 rpg.
