ST. LOUIS – A school-record eight Saint Louis players scored in double figures as the Billikens cruised to a 114-33 victory over Principia Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena in SLU's non-conference finale.
At 12-1, the Billikens are off to their best start since the 2011-12 team posted the same 13-game mark. SLU extended school records for consecutive wins at Chaifetz Arena (13), games scoring 100 or more points in a season (five) and consecutive games scoring 85 or more points (six).
Also, Saint Louis set a school record for largest victory margin (81) and equaled the school mark for most field goals in a half (27 in the first half).
Chaifetz Arena records established were most rebounds (64, including a season-high 20 on the offensive glass), largest halftime lead (53 points, 66-13) and lowest field goal percentage by an opponent (16.7 percent).
Dion Brown led the attack with 15 points, followed by
Robbie Avila (14),
Kellen Thames (14),
Jax Kerr (career-high 12),
Brady Dunlap (11),
Quentin Jones (11),
Cam Hutson (career-high 11) and
Paul Otieno (10).
Isaac Holmes netted a career-high five points.
Thames completed his second career double-double with a career-high-tying 11 rebounds as the Billikens out-rebounded Principia 64-21. Kerr collected a career-best 10 rebounds for his first career double-double, and Hutson registered a career-high six boards.
Ishan Sharma tallied a career-high five assists. Jones and
Trey Green (tied season high) had four apiece, while Holmes (career high) and Thames (tied season high) each contributed three.
Brown matched his career high of three steals and Kerr notched a career-high four blocks, part of the Bills' season-high eight rejections.
Led by Avila (4-of-6) and Dunlap (3-of-5), Saint Louis sank 12 3-pointers, the eighth time this season and fourth time in the last five games the Billikens have reached double figures. SLU's 45 field goals (45-of-77, 58.4 percent) were a season high.
The Billikens open Atlantic 10 Conference play Wednesday, Dec. 31, hosting Saint Joseph's at 3 p.m.
