ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University women's basketball (7-7) defeats the UHSP Eutectics 132-53 to wrap up its non-conference schedule.
The Billikens were in control from the opening tip, never surrendering the lead to the Eutectics. In the first quarter, Saint Louis was led by
Zya Nugent, who finished with 15 points in the quarter.
Alyssa Koerkenmeier played a big role in the win, jump-starting the game with nine points in the first ten minutes. Koerkenmeier would finish the night with her second career double-double of the season with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Saint Louis finished the first quarter shooting 13-13 from the free-throw line while also forcing 13 turnovers.
Six different Billikens scored in the second quarter, extending their lead over the Eutectics. Defense was once again pivotal, with
Jada Tiggett headlining the quarter with two blocks and two steals in five minutes of play. At the break, the Billikens held a 60-20 advantage over UHSP.
Saint Louis had its strongest quarter of the night in the third quarter, as the Billikens outscored the Eutectics 42-9. In those 10 minutes, Saint Louis shot 72.7% from the field and 54.5% from three. The Billikens took firm control of the quarter with a 33-2 run that spanned four and a half minutes.
Jahda Denis spearheaded the offense, scoring 17 of her 21 points in the third quarter.
The Billikens continued their dominance into the fourth quarter, extending their lead to a game-high 79 points in the final minute. Saint Louis closed out the game on a 14-2 run to secure its 132-53 win and improve to .500 on the season.
