SETTING THE SCENE

  • Saint Louis returns to Chaifetz Arena to host the Rhode Island Rams in an important Atlantic 10 Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
  • The Billikens are back on the road for a Tuesday matchup against Davidson in North Carolina. That game tips at 6 p.m. (CT).

FOLLOWING THE ACTION

  • Saturday's game will televised on USA Network and streamed on the NBC Sports App. Steve Schlanger and Dr. John Giannini have the call.
  • Saturday's game can be found on the radio dial at 97.1 FM KFTK as there is a programming conflict on KMOX. Billiken Hall of Famers and longtime SLU men's basketball radio partners Bob Ramsey and Earl Austin Jr. will the call the action for all SLU games, both at home and on the road. Ramsey is in his 39th season calling SLU games, while Austin is in year No. 34. 

PROMOTIONS

  • The annual Great Baby Race, sponsored by Royal Banks of Missouri, will take place at halftime on the Chaifetz Arena court. Babies will race (crawl) across the court for the chance at savings bonds courtesy of Royal Banks of Missouri.
  • Fans are encouraged to stick around after the game for the first-ever Student Baby Race. SLU students have been chosen to participate in a Baby Race for the opportunity to win cash prizes, courtesy of Royal Banks of Missouri.

NEWS & NOTES

  • Saint Louis enters the weekend in a two-way tie for fifth in the A-10 standings at 7-6. Rhode Island is one game back of the Bills in a tie for seventh at 6-7.
  • Saint Louis leads the A-10 in FG% (.473) and effective FG% (.557).  
  • Gibson Jimerson leads the Billikens and is fourth in the A-10 in scoring with 17.2 ppg. He is three field goals away from surpassing Monroe Douglass (766 career FGs from 1985-89) for second on SLU's career chart. Jimerson's 76 treys this year ranks seventh on the Billikens' single-season list.
  • Robbie Avila is a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award. He scores 16.8 ppg (sixth in A-10) and leads all centers in Division I in assists (4.1) and 3s made per game (1.7).
  • Isaiah Swope turns in 16.1 points and is fourth in the A-10 with 4.6 assists per game.
  • With the scoring trio of Avila, Jimerson and Swope, the Billikens are the only program in the country with three active players averaging 16.1 ppg or more.
  • Kalu Anya is second in the A-10 in rebounds per game (8.9). His FG% of .606 is No. 5 in a season in school history. 
  • Kobe Johnson is averaging 9.7 ppg in conference play while shooting .628/.429/.929. Over the last eight games, Johnson is averaging 12.9 ppg.
  • SLU is 11-3 at Chaifetz Arena this season but has dropped the last two on their home floor.
  • Head coach Josh Schertz is in his first season at SLU. His .775 winning percentage ranks No. 8 among active coaches across all three NCAA divisions.

ABOUT THE RAMS

  • The University of Rhode Island (Kingston, R.I.) has won two in a row and enters Saturday's game 17-8 overall and 6-7 in the A-10.
  • At 17-8 with five regular-season games to go, Rhode Island has already secured its first winning season since the 2019-20 season, snapping a string of four consecutive years below .500.
  • Sebastian Thomas leads the A-10 in steals per game (2.17) and assists per game (6.8). His 18.1 ppg is third in the conference. Thomas has a knack for getting to the free throw line as he is second in the conference in makes and attempts.
  • David Green is second on the Rams in scoring (14.3 ppg) and third in rebounding (5.6 rpg).
  • Jaden House contributes 11.2 ppg, while Jamarques Lawrence chips in 9.7 ppg with a team-best 46 3-pointers. Javonte Brown (8.6 ppg) leads the team with 43 blocked shots.
  • David Fuchs is the Rams' top rebounder at 7.8 rpg.
  • The Rams are second in the A-10 in scoring offense at 78.3 ppg. They are tops in the league in free throws made per game (17.8) and fastbreak points per game (14.0). Defensively, the Rams are second in the league in 3P-FG% defense (.302).
  • Head coach Archie Miller is in his third season at Rhode Island. He served as Dayton's head coach for six seasons and guided the Flyers to four NCAA appearances during his tenure.

SERIES HISTORY

  • This is the 27th meeting all-time between the Rams and Billikens. The series is tied 13-13. 
  • Saint Louis has won six in a row, including two games last year. SLU won in Kingston then defeated the Rams in the opening round of the A-10 Tournament in Brooklyn. 
  • At one point in the series, the Rams won 10 out of 11.
  • Gibson Jimerson has averaged 23.0 ppg in five games against the Rams. That is his best scoring output against any A-10 opponent in his career.
