BILLIKENS TRAVEL TO ILLINOIS, PURDUE THIS WEEKEND
•Saint Louis softball (7-8) will play at two Big Ten Conference venues this weekend.
•The Billikens face Illinois Friday, March 7, at 2 p.m. From there, it's on to Purdue for the three-team Boilermaker Classic Saturday-Sunday, March 8-9. SLU takes on Purdue (11 a.m. CT) and Bradley (4 p.m. CT) on Saturday, then flips on Sunday with Bradley (11 a.m. CT) and Purdue (1:30 p.m. CT).

ABOUT THE BILLIKENS
•Saint Louis went 2-3 at the Kennesaw State Tournament Feb. 28-March 2. The Billikens defeated Rider twice and fell to St. John's, East Tennessee State and Kennesaw State.
•Abby Mallo and Scout Gallagher were named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 24-March 2. Mallo also was included on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's "Selected Top Performances" list.
•Mallo posted a .550 batting average (11-for-20) and 11 RBIs in seven games last week. Her 11 hits included three home runs and two doubles, and she drew five walks.
•Gallagher, who played in six games last week, turned in a .350 batting average (7-for-20) and eight RBIs. Her seven hits included a home run and two doubles. Gallagher also pitched twice, notching a victory over Green Bay in a four-inning start and tossing a scoreless relief inning vs. Rider.
•Saint Louis has posted a 2.72 ERA over the last eight games to lower its season mark to 3.20, good for the A-10 lead.
•SLU also leads the league with nine home runs and 70 walks.
•Saint Louis' 4.93 runs per game, .383 on-base percentage and 1.45 WHIP are second in the A-10.
•The Billikens have committed just four errors over the last nine games to raise their fielding percentage to .968, ranking third in the conference.
•SLU's .258 batting average ranks fourth in the A-10. The Bills have hit .303 over the last eight games.
•Abby Mallo leads the league with 40 total bases and six home runs (tied). Mallo ranks second in the A-10 with 18 RBIs, a .930 slugging percentage (24th nationally), a 1.458 OPS and four doubles (tied); third with a .419 batting average; and fifth with a .528 on-base percentage.
•Natalie Sullivan tops the A-10 with 16 runs and three sacrifice bunts (tied). Sullivan is second with eight stolen bases, tied for third with 12 walks and tied for fifth with a .500 on-base percentage. She is hitting .444 (8-for-18) with three doubles, a .615 on-base percentage and six stolen bases over the last seven games, lifting her batting average to .341, and has reached base in each of those seven contests.
•Taylor Hochman is tied for second with four wins and stands third with a 1.71 ERA in the A-10 pitching rankings.
•Jane Kaniecki is tied for sixth in the conference with 11 RBIs. Kaniecki has hit safely in eight of her last 10 games, batting .355 (11-of-31) with eight RBIs and just one strikeout in 37 plate appearances.
•Abby Ulsas is second in the A-10 with 13 walks and ranks 28th nationally with 0.87 walks per game.
•The left side of the Billikens' infield has been solid. Shortstop Chloe Rhine has a league-best 34 assists, and third baseman Kendall Johnson is fourth with 29 assists.
•Karsen Jany has a six-game hitting streak, going 8-for-17 (.471) with five walks and raising her batting average to .333. The streak ties the Billikens' longest of the season.
•Isabel Royle has both of her 2025 victories and a 1.26 ERA over her last five appearances. Royle has a 0.96 WHIP and a .158 opponents' batting average over that span.
 
HEAD COACH CHRISTY CONNOYER
•Now in her 15th season at the helm, head coach Christy Connoyer owns 360 Saint Louis victories. In addition to last year's A-10 Championship runner-up finish, Connoyer guided the 2023 Billikens to the program's first regular-season conference title, an achievement for which she earned A-10 Coach of the Year accolades.
•Connoyer recently was inducted into the Metro St. Louis Softball Hall of Fame.
 
SCOUTING ILLINOIS
•Illinois (9-9), which will play its home opener against Saint Louis, was 21-31 overall and 7-15 (12th place) in the Big Ten last season.
•Senior utility Zoie Howard carries a team-high .360 batting average. Freshman shortstop Ava Moore is next at .333, followed by sophomore infielders Adisyn Caryl and Eileen Donahue, both at .314.
•Caryl, a 2024 Big Ten All-Freshman selection, leads Illinois with five home runs and 13 RBIs. Donahue has three homers and 12 RBIs.
•Senior right-hander Lauren Wiles leads the pitching staff with a 5-3 record and a 2.90 ERA.
 
SCOUTING PURDUE
•Purdue (12-8), which also plays SLU in its home opener, was 25-27 overall and 11-12 (ninth place) in the Big Ten a year ago.
•Southern Indiana was a common opponent for the Boilermakers and Billikens. Purdue defeated USI 12-0, while Saint Louis went 1-1 vs. the Screaming Eagles, winning 2-1 and losing 4-3.
•Purdue ranks among the top 50 teams in the nation in stolen bases (48, 14th), shutouts (four, 42nd), batting average (.325, 43rd), runs per game (6.40, 45th) and on-base percentage (.404, 49th).
•Sophomore outfielder Moriah Polar is one of the top hitters in the nation, ranking fourth with a .561 batting average. Polar has 20 stolen bases and 14 RBIs.
•Junior outfielder Khloe Banks owns a .423 batting average, followed by sophomore pitcher/first baseman Julia Gossett (.353), sophomore catcher Delaney Reefe (.340, team-high eight doubles) and sophomore infielder Kylie Franks (.314).
•Gossett and junior utility Jordyn Ramos are battling for the team lead with 19 and 18 RBIs, respectively.
•The Boilermakers' top pitchers are senior right-hander Madi Elish (5-2, 1.81 ERA) and senior left-hander Kendall Klochack (4-1, 2.33 ERA).
 
SCOUTING BRADLEY
•Missouri Valley Conference member Bradley (7-12) was picked to finish fifth in this year's MVC race. The Braves were 29-27 overall and 15-12 (fifth) in conference play last year.
•Six of Bradley's 12 losses have been to Power 4 conference teams, including four defeats to nationally ranked teams.
•Senior infielder Bailey Sample tops the Braves' batting average chart at .324.
•Junior outfielder Lauren DeRolf and junior utility Kierston McCoy are batting .270 and .263, respectively. McCoy has team highs of three home runs and 10 RBIs.
•The pitching staff is led by senior right-hander Sydney Kennedy (4-6, 2.50 ERA).
 
UP NEXT
•Saint Louis plays its home opener Tuesday, March 11, hosting South Dakota State at noon. Four road games follow – Western Illinois on Wednesday, March 12, and the A-10 opening three-game series vs. Dayton Saturday-Sunday, March 15-16.
