THE BASICS
Taylor Hochman and Isabel Royle fired shutouts to lead Saint Louis to a 3-0, 8-0 sweep of Rhode Island in an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader Monday at URI Softball Complex.

SLU extended its winning streak to seven games and improved to 22-19 overall and 11-5 in conference play (third place). The Billikens have won nine straight and 11 of their last 13 A-10 games.

Saint Louis has recorded a shutout in five of its last seven games, all vs. conference opponents. The Bills' ERA in those seven games is 0.73.

In the nightcap, Natalie Sullivan played in and started her 200th consecutive game.

GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Saint Louis scored the only run it would need in the top of the third inning. Leadoff hitter Allie Marietta was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Karsen Jany's single.
•The Billikens doubled the lead in the sixth. After Jane Kaniecki drew a leadoff walk, pinch runner Addie Duttlinger moved to second when Scout Gallagher was hit by a pitch and scored on Chloe Rhine's single.
•SLU added an insurance tally in the seventh. Jany and Abby Ulsas walked to start the inning; Jany advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored on Kaniecki's two-out single.

GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Hochman scattered six hits and walked only two in improving to 11-6 and lowering her ERA to 2.36. The shutout was her fifth of the season, adding to her career high; four of the five have come in her last seven starts, and three have come in her last four starts.
•Jany added a triple for a two-hit game.
•Sullivan had a single.

GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Saint Louis took a 1-0 lead in the first. With two outs, Sullivan walked, stole second and scored on Abby Mallo's single.
•The Billikens made it 2-0 in the sixth. A walk to Rhine, an error on Kendall Johnson's sacrifice and Marietta's single loaded the bases, and Ulsas collected an RBI with a walk.
•Kaniecki recorded two hits in a six-run seventh inning. Her leadoff double, Anna Christ's hit-by-pitch and Rhine's walk loaded the bases. A one-out walk to Marietta and Jany's groundout increased the lead to 4-0, and after Ulsas walked, Sullivan delivered a two-run single. RBI singles by Mallo and Kaniecki wrapped up the scoring.

GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Royle picked up her ninth win and second shutout. She allowed just five hits and one walk.
•Ulsas had a single.
