ST. LOUIS — Saint Louis fell 17-5 to SIUE on Tuesday night at the Billiken Sports Center.
The Cougars scored 12 unanswered runs before the Billikens got on the board.
Riley Iffrig drove in SLU's first run with a fifth-inning RBI, and Ian Halverson followed with a two-run triple to cut the deficit to 12-3 and stave off the run rule.
SIUE added a run in the eighth to make it 13-3, but the Billikens responded in the bottom half. Chase Beattie doubled down the left-field line to score Max McGwire, and Joe Connolly singled in another run to bring it to 13-5.
The Cougars plated four more in the ninth to seal the final score.
Despite the loss, the Saint Louis pitching staff recorded 11 strikeouts.
The Billikens return to action this weekend with a home series against UMass. Game 1 is set for Friday, May 2, at 6 p.m.
