BILLIKENS OPEN NCAA TOURNAMENT VS. NO. 4 ARKANSAS
 
•Saint Louis softball (34-22) plays the first NCAA Tournament game in program history Friday evening as the Billikens take on No. 4 national seed Arkansas (40-12) in the first round of the Fayetteville Regional. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

•SLU, which finished second in the Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season standings (18-7), earned the league's automatic NCAA Tournament bid by winning its first A-10 Championship title. The Billikens are 25-6 in their last 31 games, and their 34 wins are second most in program history.
 
•Arkansas tied for fifth (14-10) in the powerful Southeastern Conference, which placed nine teams among the 16 national seeds. The Razorbacks reached the SEC Tournament semifinals, falling 8-6 to Oklahoma, and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
•Friday's game features two conference players of the year. Saint Louis junior catcher Abby Mallo is the A-10 co-Player of the Year, while Arkansas senior first baseman Bri Ellis is the SEC Player of the Year. Mallo also was named Most Outstanding Player of the A-10 Championship.
 
•Arkansas has won all eight previous meetings with Saint Louis. The teams last faced each other in 2018.
 
•Oklahoma State and Indiana are the other teams in the Fayetteville Regional.
 
•The winner of the SLU-Arkansas game plays the winner of the Oklahoma State-Indiana game Saturday at noon. Friday's losing teams square off Saturday at 2:30 p.m., with the winner taking on the loser of the noon game.
