WASHINGTON – Saint Louis' Olivia Smith was one of 11 athletes voted to the Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Preseason All-Conference team, the league announced today. The team was voted upon by the league's seven head coaches.
Smith was recently added to the Billiken roster for her sixth season as she pursues a doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University. Smith's freshman season was in 2020-21, a year that did not count against a player's eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She played in two games in the fall of 2021 and was granted a medical hardship waiver after missing the year due to an injury sustained after just two games.
"Having Olivia Smith return for her sixth year is such a gift to our program," interim head coach Laura Hurff said. "She has already proven herself as an incredible leader on and off the field, setting the standard for our program every day. Her impact is undeniable, and we can't wait to see all she will accomplish this season and the difference she will continue to make for our team."
Last season, Smith started all 14 matches, scored a goal, and was second on the team with four assists.
In five years with Saint Louis, Smith has appeared in 62 games (61 starts) and accumulated 21 points (6G, 9A).
The Billikens host Maryville on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the final scrimmage of the preseason. SLU travels to Ball State for the season opener Sunday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. That match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
