Saint Louis leads 2-1-1 |
The 24th-ranked Saint Louis Billikens host the No. 9 Portland Pilots in a battle of top-25 teams on Friday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The Billikens (3-1-1) are coming off a win against SIUE for the Bronze Boot on Sunday. SLU's lone loss came last week at now-No. 1 Indiana. The Bills already have a win against a ranked opponent this year when they defeated No. 5 SMU on Aug. 24.
Portland (5-0-0) jumped into the top 25 after 1-0 wins over Wisconsin and Kansas City last week. The Pilots have yet to concede a goal this year and have outscored their opponents 18-0.Â
Friday's game will streamed on ESPN+, with Dan Bettlach calling the action.
Here are five additional facts in advance of Friday's match vs. Portland:
1 // The Billikens' four goals have come from four different goal scorers. Andrew Heckenlaible (SMU), Grady Easton (Seton Hall) and Theo Franca (SIUE) have the game-winners. Xavi O'Neil scored the opening goal vs. SIUE. Heckenlaible added an assist on O'Neil's tally and has a team-best three points (1G, 1A).
2 // The Billikens are tied for 16th in the NCAA in team goals against average. SLU has allowed just two goals on the year. It's the first time since 2003 that the Billikens have yielded two or fewer goals through the first five games of the season.Â
3 //Â Saint Louis is unbeaten in their last 28 regular-season games at Hermann Stadium, dating back to the 2022 campaign. SLU is 32-3-14 on its home field over the last five seasons including the postseason.
4 //Â Friday's match is the first top-25 matchup at Hermann Stadium since Oct. 2, 2013, when the 22nd-ranked Bills defeated No. 4 Creighton 1-0. SLU has been ranked plenty of times since then, and the Bills have hosted many ranked teams, but it has been 12 years since both teams have been ranked in a match at Hermann Stadium.
5 // Saint Louis leads the all-time series 2-1-1. This is the final game of a home-and-home between the squads. Last season, the Billikens topped Portland 2-0 in Oregon. Tanner Anderson scored an insurance goal for the Bills in the second half, and Jeremi Abonnel made two saves for the clean sheet. It will be the first time the teams have played in St. Louis – they've played three times in Portland (1993, 2009 and 2024) and once on a neutral field in Omaha (2008).
