Adee Broesder scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 40th minute in Saint Louis' 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over VCU Thursday night at Sports Backers Stadium.
•The Billikens stretched their unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1) and improved to 7-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the A-10. VCU fell to 3-6-2, 1-1.
•Broesder took a pass from fellow freshman
Caroline Chier five yards into the penalty area, fought off a VCU defender and slipped a six-yard left-footed shot past VCU goalkeeper Mia Pongratz to give SLU a 2-0 lead. The goal was Broesder's second of the season, and the assist was Chier's team-leading fourth.
•
Lucie Schwartz gave the Bills a 1-0 lead with a penalty kick in the 16th minute, her second goal of the year. SLU fired two shots into the penalty area; both were blocked, but contact on the second attempt was ruled a hand ball. The goal was Schwartz's second of the season.
•VCU netted its goal in the 44th minute.
