Billiken Women Edge WashU in Season Opener

ST. LOUISMeghan Eng and Tierney Kohl led the Saint Louis women to a narrow victory over Washington University in the Billikens' season-opening meet Saturday afternoon at Simon Recreation Center.
 
SLU defeated WashU 143.5-137.5. In the men's meet, WashU claimed a 172-103 victory.
 
Eng and Kohl won two individual events apiece. Eng touched first in the 100 back (58.52) and 200 back (2:07.52), while Kohl topped the field in the 200 IM (2:11.36) and 200 breast (2:22.83).
 
Kenna Cashman won the 100 breast (1:06.71), Faith McAdam captured the 200 fly (2:10.59) and Olivia Fox tied for first in 1-meter diving (220.80) for the Billikens, who also were victorious in the 200 medley relay. Eng and Cashman were joined by Sarah Dingus and Anya Brueggeman in clocking a 1:46.65.
 
The Saint Louis men were led by double winner Brae Sanchez, who grabbed victories in the 100 breast (56.83) and 200 breast (2:07.82). Ben Mears was first in 1-meter diving (261.35), and the 400 free relay squad of Logan Townsend, Tyler Williams, Daniel Jekov and Ethan Hudock turned in a winning time of 3:07.53.
 
The Billikens host UMSL Thursday, Oct. 2, at 5:30 p.m.
