PHILADELPHIA – Saint Louis received 18 points from Robbie Avila and 17 from Brady Dunlap in an 84-72 win at La Salle Saturday in Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball action at John E. Glaser Arena.
SLU extends its winning streak to nine and improves to 15-1 overall and 3-0 in A-10 play. La Salle dips to 5-12 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Avila's 18 points came on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. He also added a team-high-tying six rebounds and dished out four assists.
Dunlap was 6-of-9 from the floor and added a team-high four 3-pointers (4-of-7). Amari McCottry scored 13 points, finished tied with Avila with six rebounds, and distributed a team-high five assists. Quentin Jones also finished in double figures with 11 points. He'll enter the next game needing five points to reach 1,000 for his career.
The Bills shot 56.9 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from 3-point range. Â
SLU took a 20-point lead (44-24) into halftime. The Billikens ended the half on a 19-4 spurt, holding La Salle to just one field goal over the final five minutes of the opening frame. An 11-0 run was part of the late first-half rally. Jones sparked the run with a pair of baskets, and it was capped by an Ishan Sharma trey.
Dunlap led all scorers with 11 points at the break. All nine rotation players scored in the first half alone.
The second half saw the Billikens maintain a double digit lead throughout and was up by 24 at the under eight media timeout, but La Salle did not go down quietly. The Explorers outscored the Billikens 48-40 in the second half.
The Billikens return home to take on the Fordham Rams on Wednesday at Chaifetz Arena. Game time on FanDuel Sports Network is 7 p.m. Fordham (10-7, 1-3 A-10) defeated St. Bonaventure on the road earlier today.Â
