WASHINGTON – Saint Louis field hockey freshman Penny Dirou has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Dirou helped the Billikens secure a 1-0 A10 victory over Davidson on Sunday at the SLU Field Hockey Complex, recording an assist on the game-winning goal.

Dirou set up Ella Kappesser's goal in the 26th minute, delivering the decisive goal as Saint Louis earned its second conference victory of the season. Dirou also contributed to the Billikens' defense that held Davidson scoreless to secure the shutout.

The victory gave Saint Louis six wins this season, its highest total since 2006, when the Billikens finished 7-9. It also marked the program's first season with multiple A10 victories since 2007.

Saint Louis (6-9, 2-4 A10) concludes the regular season with a pair of games in Louisville, Kentucky, next weekend. The Billikens face Ball State on Friday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. CT before taking on Bellarmine on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. CT.
