Saint Louis baseball is on the road for a midweek matchup at Southeast Missouri

QUICK HITTERS
  • Saint Louis dropped its first series of the year in Pensacola to Ohio State.
  • The Billikens lost all three contests to the Buckeyes.
  • Senior Max McGwire led the way with a .333 batting average and one RBI. The senior made his first appearance on the mound for the Billikens, notching his first career strikeout over 1 2/3rds.
  • Senior infielder Austin Neuweg finished with three hits, two runs, six total bases, and his first home run on the season. The Missouri native has logged 147 starts in his Billiken career and is looking to build on an impressive junior season where he slashed .253/.322/.421.
  • Junior outfielder Krew Bond tallied two hits, including his first home run of the season, on his way to a .985 OPS and .600 SLG. It's Bond's first year as a Billiken after transferring in from Wabash Valley Community College.
  • James Showalter showed out in his first appearance as a Billiken after transferring from Johnson University this past season. The senior had four strikeouts while only giving up one run over 2 2/3rds of an inning.
  • The Redhawks have won five in a row against the Billikens dating back to 2019 and own a 25-16 series record.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
  • Started the season at home losing two of three against Illinois State
  • The Redhawks are led by transfer first baseman Cal Sullivan, who wrapped up the opening series with four hits, two home runs, and 8 RBI. He slashed .364/.462/.909 against Illinois State.
  • SEMO has speed across the board, which allowed them to go a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts.
  • Infielder Brooks Kettering is the leading returner for the Redhawks after a very productive sophomore campaign that saw him his .240 with 48 hits, nine doubles, two triples, and 18 RBIs.
  • Roster turnover is the story for SEMO entering the new season, with 20 newcomers set to play their first season in Cape Girardeau.
  • Setup man Gavin Johnston comes out of the bullpen for the fourth year in a row for the Redhawks, and he dazzled in the opening series as he struck out all three batters he faced.
