WHAT'S ON TAP?

  • Top-seed Saint Louis takes on No. 4 seed Dayton Saturday in a semifinal round matchup of the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa. Tipoff is slated for noon CT / 1 p.m. ET.
  • The winner of Saturday's game advances to the A-10 Championship game on Sunday, March 15, at noon CT / 1 p.m. ET.

  • Saturday's game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. Tom McCarthy, Chris Walker and A.J. Ross will call the action.

Billiken Hall of Famers and longtime SLU men's basketball radio partners Bob Ramsey and Earl Austin Jr. will call the action for all SLU games, both at home and on the road. Billiken Basketball sends a special salute to Rammer, who is in his 40th season as the radio voice of SLU hoops, and Austin, who is in year No. 35. The duo were recently honored with the Burnes-Broeg Award at the Missouri Athletic Club's Jack Buck Awards.

NEWS & NOTES

  • The Billikens advanced to the A-10 semifinals with a thrilling 88-81 victory over George Washington in Friday's quarterfinals. SLU erased a 21-point deficit to complete the largest comeback in school history. A-10 Player of the Year Robbie Avila led the Billikens with 22 points, while Trey Green (19 points) and Kellen Thames (14 points) also scored in double figures for the Bills.
  • Dayton advanced to the semifinals by way of an 86-63 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday.
  • Saint Louis and Dayton split the regular-season series, with each team winning on its home court. The Billikens won 102-71 on Jan. 30 at Chaifetz Arena, while Dayton won the last meeting on Feb. 24 by a score of 77-62 at UD Arena.
  • SLU owns a 21-17 all-time record in A-10 Championship tilts and has now won at least one game in the last 10 A-10 Championships.
  • SLU has tied the school record for wins in a season (28, 2012-13).
  • The Billikens have set SLU single-season records for 3-pointers made (350) and points (2,810).
  • The Bills enter Saturday's game needing four more 3-pointers to surpass the A-10 record of 353 by Davidson in 2017-18.
  • Robbie Avila was named the A-10 Player of the Year and first-team All-Conference. Three Billikens earned third-team All-Conference honors – Trey Green, Amari McCottry and Kellen Thames. Dion Brown was named to the league's All-Defensive team, while Ishan Sharma earned a spot on the A-10 All-Academic team.
  • SLU head coach Josh Schertz is a finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year and Jim Phelan Coach of the Year Awards.

ABOUT DAYTON

  • Dayton, the No. 4 seed, advanced to the A-10 semifinals with a 68-63 win Friday against No. 13 St. Bonaventure. 
  • Javon Bennett, a first-team All-Conference selection, leads the Flyers with 16.3 ppg. He has drilled a team-best 80 3-pointers. Bennett shoots 90.2 percent (110-122) from the free-throw line and has distributed a team-best 96 assists.
  • De'Shayne Montgomery, who earned third-team All-Conference honors, averages 13.6 ppg and leads the Flyers with 71 steals.
  • Amael L'Etang contributes 12.3 ppg and a team-high 32 blocked shots. 
  • Dayton leads the league and ranks 15th in the nation in turnovers forced per game (14.9). The Flyers' 8.5 steals per game also lead the league and are in the top 30 nationally. 
  • Head coach Anthony Grant is in his ninth year at Dayton and his 18th season overall. 

SERIES HISTORY

  • This is the 77th meeting all-time between the Billikens and Flyers. Dayton leads the series 45-31.
  • Dayton is the Billikens' third-most common opponent, trailing only Drake (85) and Cincinnati (78).
  • This is the fifth meeting in conference tournament play between the Billikens and Flyers. Dayton prevailed in the second round of the 2008 A-10 Championship in Atlantic City, N.J. In the last A-10 Tournament matchup between the teams, SLU defeated Dayton in the 2019 quarterfinals en route to the Billikens winning the A-10 Championship in Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • SLU won both matchups against the Flyers in Great Midwest Conference Championship action in 1994 and 1995.
