School Records, PRs Rule the Weekend

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis' track and field squad had a split weekend with meets at SIUE and Duke, but produced similar results, with numerous PRs and several school records.

The Bills competed at the prestigious Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., and the SIUE Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Ill.

Among the highlights of the weekend was Sam Lamaze's performance in the 400 meters at Duke. He won the event in a new school-record time of 46.50. It is the third time this season that he lowered his own school-record time.

Lamaze's time in the 400 meters (46.50) ranks first in the Atlantic 10 Conference and 25th on the NCAA Division I West Preliminary qualifying list. Athletes with the top 48 or so times at the end of the season advance to the NCAA Division I West First Rounds in Fayetteville, Ark.

Also at Duke, Clara Gillen broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:33.75.

The men's 4x100-meter relay pulled in with a school record at the Duke Invitational. The quartet of Boen Brockmiller, Will Stewart, Dane Treiber and Luke Erdman ran 41.71 to enter the SLU record book.

Saint Louis is off next weekend, then heads to the Drake Relays and Kip Janvrin Open for its final tune-up before the A-10 Championships at George Mason in early May.
