Billikens Drop Marathon Heartbreaker on Senior Day

ST. LOUIS – The Billikens fell 26-24 in a marathon matchup against Richmond on Saturday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center on Senior Day.
 
Louis jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the first inning.
 
Richmond answered with eight runs in the top of the second to move ahead 8-5 before SLU responded to tie the game at 8-8 on a three-run homer from Chase Beattie.
 
The Billikens regained the lead in the third inning at 9-8 before the Spiders evened the score again in the fourth.
 
Saint Louis broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with seven runs to take a 16-9 advantage. Four RBI singles and a sacrifice fly highlighted the inning.
 
Richmond responded with a 10-run fifth inning to take a 19-16 lead. The Billikens answered again with four runs to reclaim a 20-19 advantage after a pair of two-run hits from Ian Blazier and Ian Halverson.
 
The Spiders scored two runs in the sixth inning and added five more in the seventh to move in front 26-20 and held the lead the rest of the way.
 
Saint Louis plated two runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth to cut the deficit to the final margin.
