ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis used an early goal from Luke Adams and a strong defensive effort to post a 1-0 Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer victory over Duquesne Saturday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The win improves the Billikens 3-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in A10 play. Duquesne dips to 4-2-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Adams scored in the 13th minute, converting a corner kick from Xavi O'Neil for his first goal of the season. The Billikens controlled much of the first half, outshooting the Dukes 7-2 and holding a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Saint Louis carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime and continued to hold Duquesne at bay throughout the second half. The Dukes managed just one shot after intermission, with Lucas McPartlin making a save on Jaxon Ervin's attempt in the 69th minute to preserve the shutout.
McPartlin finished with two saves for his second win and second shutout of the season. The Billiken defense limited Duquesne to three total shots.
Saint Louis finished with a 9-3 advantage in shots. The Billikens also earned seven corner kicks while conceding just three.
A crowd of 3,246 was on hand at Hermann Stadium for the Homecoming & Family Weekend matchup.
SLU returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 29, for a nonconference matchup against Drake. Game time at Hermann Stadium is 7 p.m.
