Three Billikens Earn A-10 Weekly Cross Country Honors

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Saint Louis University cross country runners Oliwia Wawrzyniak, Sydney Gertsen and Jameson Tenopir were recognized by the Atlantic 10 Conference Tuesday following their performances at Friday's Fighting Illini Invitational.

Wawrzyniak was named the A-10 Women's Performer of the Week, while Gertsen earned A-10 Women's Rookie of the Week. Tenopir was selected as the A-10 Men's Rookie of the Week.

All three Billikens made their Saint Louis debuts at the Fighting Illini Invitational, helping the women's team to a second-place finish and the men's team to a third-place showing.

Wawrzyniak made an immediate impact, capturing the individual title in the women's 4K with a time of 12:53.5. The newcomer finished nearly 37 seconds ahead of the runner-up and led the Billikens to 49 team points.

Gertsen also turned in an impressive collegiate debut, finishing third overall in 13:30.3. She was the second Billiken across the finish line and helped Saint Louis place two runners among the meet's top three individual finishers.

Tenopir placed 13th in the men's 6K with a time of 18:27.3. He was the second Saint Louis finisher as the Billikens scored 71 points to finish third.

The three weekly awards mark the first career A-10 honors for Wawrzyniak, Gertsen and Tenopir.

Saint Louis returns to action Friday, Sept. 18, when it hosts the Billiken Invitational at Quail Creek Golf Club in south St. Louis County.
