Email Coach Moulder
Kevin Moulder was named assistant coach in August 2007, following head coach Darin Hendrickson to Saint Louis from Central Missouri. Moulder serves as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
As a member of the coaching staff, he has overseen the emergence of Saint Louis as a perennial contender in the Atlantic 10. While Moulder has been at SLU, the Billikens have broken the single season wins record three times and have recorded five 30+ win seasons. Saint Louis won the Atlantic 10 regular season title in three consecutive seasons from 2012-14.
As a Billiken, Moulder has brought the pitching staff to new heights. His pitchers have broken four single season records and three career records. In 2012, Moulder's staff boasted a 1.17 WHIP, which was sixth-best in the nation. They also cracked the national top 20 in Walks per Game (2.35, 11th), Strikeout to Walk Ratio (2.35, 13th) and ERA (3.06, 17th). Moulder also coached Travis Parker in a terrific senior campaign where he did not allow an earned run all season, en route to a All-America selection. The 2012 staff also lead the A-10 with a 3.06 ERA.
Since arriving on campus, Moulder has helped accumulate recruiting classes that have drawn national attention. He was the lead recruiter for 2013 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Mike Vigliarolo. Moulder also brought in highly-touted pitcher James Norwood from New York. In 2012, the Billikens had two selections to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. The 2009 recruiting class included freshman All-American Zach Miller and Jon Myers, a junior college All-American at Meramec Community College in St. Louis. Moulder has coached more than 40 players who have either been drafted or have gone on to play professional baseball, including Brian Schlitter, Tom Layne and Deunte Heath who have all played in MLB games. Dave Sever and Zach Outman were MLB draft picks under Moulder. In addition, Moulder coached the top prospect in the TCL and had the No. 1 prospect in the Mountain Collegiate League according to Baseball America.
In 2007, Moulder helped guide Central Missouri to a 51-13 record and a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) conference championship. He mentored a pitching staff that posted a 3.08 ERA and eight shutouts. UCM was not Moulder's first foray into coaching, however. He began his career as an assistant at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park in 2004, where he coached four pitchers who went on to play in NCAA Division I programs.
In 2005, he moved on to Lake City (Fla.) Community College as an associate coach and guided a team that included nine players selected in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft, the second-most of any college level. Moulder also has a variety of experience as a head coach in summer college baseball leagues. Most recently, he led the 2007 Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
In 2006, he was the head coach of the Laramie Colts and collected the franchise's first Mountain Collegiate League championship, posting a 32-18 record.
As a player, Moulder began his career at Forest Park as a pitcher on Hendrickson's 2001 NJCAA World Series team, earning All-Region honors. Moulder transferred to Murray State in 2002 and helped the Thoroughbreds to the 2003 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Moulder graduated from Murray State in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in organizational communication. He earned a master's in sports administration from Central Missouri in 2007. His father, Bill Moulder, played basketball for the Billikens from 1973-74 to 1976-77. Kevin and his wife, Tess, live in St. Louis with their daughter, Ellie.
