Former Billiken standout pitcher Scott Turmail returns to SLU as a volunteer assistant coach. In addition to his duties with the pitching staff, he oversees scheduling the program's travel and assisting with day-to-day responsibilities. Turmail also will serve as first base coach. During his two-year playing career with the Billikens, Turmail recorded 12 victories and notched two saves. He registered 104 strikeouts to go along with a 3.67 ERA. He threw five complete games and had a career-best eight strikeouts in a game versus Rhode Island. After completing his SLU career, Turmail spent the 2009 summer playing with the River City Rascals in the Frontier League. In 2009-10, Turmail was the head coach at St. Louis Community College - Forest Park. He guided the Highlanders to 23 victories and to NJCAA Region 16 Finals. While at Forest Park C.C., he coached three All-MCCAC players, including SLU sophomore transfer Jordan Hammerman.During the summer 2010, Turmail coached the Alton Indians of the St. Louis Metro Collegiate Baseball League. He steered the team to a 24-14 record and the League Championship. In addition, the Indians finished in second place in the 16-team NABF World Series. Turmail graduated from SLU in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in educational studies.
