Will Schierholz

Will Schierholz began his time at Saint Louis in the spring of 2018, where he helped to oversee the Billikens' pitching staff. Prior to the 2019 season, Schierholz was promoted from volunteer assistant coach to assistant coach. The 2021 season was Schierholz's fourth with the Billikens.

In a season unlike any other, due to COVID-19, the Billikens finished 17-31 in 2021. They held a 6-10 conference record, facing just four league foes on the year. The Billikens picked up a win against against No. 25 Indiana State on April 3, marking just the second victory over a ranked team since the 2017 season.

2020 was cut short due to COVID-19, but Schierholz helped lead the Billikens to a 10-6 record, with a team that consisted of 21 newcomers, including 11 freshmen. Saint Louis pitching returned just 3.6 percent of its starts (2-of-55) from the 2019 season. 14 of the 16 games were started by a new face in the rotation.

In 2019, the Billikens went 25-30, finishing seventh in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Senior RHP Connor Lehmann was drafted in the seventh round, pick 203 by the San Diego Padres. He became the third highest draft pick at SLU in the modern draft era. The other two were also during Hendrickson's time.

The 2018 season was one of the best in Saint Louis history for the pitching staff as Schierholz helped to mentor one of the top starting staffs in NCAA Division I Baseball. The 2018 starting staff featured two, 10-game winners and a nine game winner. Of those, Miller Hogan became the highest draft pick in team history when he was selected in the sixth round (180 overall) by the Tampa Bay Rays. The team was also ranked in the top 25 in the nation in several categories including shutouts (No. 20, 6), hits allowed per nine innings (No. 8, 7.57), and ERA (No. 24, 3.47).

Schierholz came to SLU from Miami (Ohio), where he served as the volunteer assistant for the 2017 season. He worked with the pitching staff and outfielders for the RedHawks. On game days, Schierholz served the Redhawks first base coach. As a part of the Miami staff, Schierholz assisted with on-campus recruiting while also working as the camp director.

Prior to Miami, Schierholz was an assistant coach at Jefferson College for the 2016 season. He helped the Vikings to a 41-18 record and a top-25 national ranking. Schierholz helped develop the pitching staff which included two pitchers who were ranked as top-500 MLB draft prospects. Overall, Schierholz was instrumental in the development of 21 athletes who moved on to 4-year institutions for the 2016-17 school year.

Schierholz was a pitcher at Butler University and Miami (Ohio) University. He pitched for the Butler Bulldog baseball team from 2011-14, leading the Bulldogs in ERA, appearances, wins and batting average against in 2014. Schierholz moved on to Miami (Ohio) in 2015 as a graduate transfer, where he led the team in ERA, appearances, saves and batting average against. He was also a quarterback on the Butler football team from 2010-12.

After Schierholz’s collegiate playing career, he went on to play professionally for the River City Rascals. He posted a team-best 2.67 ERA over 44 appearances for the Rascals in his rookie campaign in 2015. In two seasons, Schierholz ended his career with an 8-3 record and a 2.96 ERA in 85 appearances for the Rascals.
