Sarah Clynes is in her second season as assistant softball coach at Saint Louis University.
Clynes, a native of Florissant, Mo., and a St. Joseph's Academy graduate, enjoyed a stellar playing career at the University of Illinois-Chicago from 2006-09. She was a two-time NFCA/Louisville Slugger first-team All-Region selection (2007, 2009), a two-time Horizon League Player of the Year (2007, 2009), a three-time Horizon League first-team choice (2007-09) and a three-time Horizon League All-Tournament honoree (2006-08). Clynes was the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year and a second-team All-Conference pick in 2006.
A pitcher/utility player, Clynes finished her career ranked among UIC's top 10 in victories (55), complete games (61), shutouts (16), innings (726 1/3) and strikeouts (485) in the circle, and batting average (.348), hits (243), doubles (56), home runs (28) and walks (119) at the plate. She helped lead the Flames to the Horizon League regular-season crown in 2006 and 2009.
Clynes, who works with the Billiken pitchers, continued her association with UIC softball after completing her eligibility in 2009. She was an undergraduate assistant coach for the Flames in 2010 while completing requirements for a bachelor's degree in kinesiology (exercise and fitness concentration). Clynes also served four years as a volunteer coach for the St. Louis Chaos youth softball teams.
"Sarah is from the St. Louis area and brings championship experience, great knowledge and enthusiasm to our pitching staff," head coach Christy Connoyer said. "She excelled as a pitcher during her collegiate career and was a prolific hitter as well. Sarah knows the game well and is a tremendous asset to our program."
Clynes holds a master's degree in health informatics from Saint Louis (2013).
