Former Saint Louis University women's basketball standout Brooke Flowers was announced as the Billikens' Graduate Student Manager for the upcoming season on August 7, 2023. Â
Flowers played for SLU from 2018-23 and was instrumental in the team's first-ever Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth during her final season with the program.Â
"Throughout my career while studying successful coaches, I have always been drawn to the storyline of staffs comprised of former players," said head coach Rebecca Tillett. "Brooke planted the seed in our team last year that we would find a way to win a championship and her leadership helped us do exactly that. She is well versed in what we are aiming to accomplish at SLU which is simultaneously strive for excellence everywhere while empowering women with a holistic approach. Our players and staff are already benefiting from her insight daily."Â
In her most recent season as a Billiken, Flowers was named the A-10 co-Defensive Player of the Year and was an All-Conference second-team selection to follow up her Defensive Player of the Year selection during the 2021-22 season. She was one of 10 semifinalists for the prestigious Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award for her efforts during the 2022-23 season, as well. Flowers also served as a two-time team captain, helping lead the program in that role from 2021-23. Â
On the court, Flowers was a force, leading the NCAA in blocks per game during the 2022-23 season (3.8) highlighted by a national best performance of 11. She also led the nation in total blocks during the 2022-23 season with 133, a number that beat the second-place player by 15 (Cameron Brink of Stanford). In her career, Flowers amassed 398 total blocks, a number that not only led SLU but the NCAA as well. She capped her career eclipsing SLU's single season record with 133 blocks during the 2022-23 season while also posting the program's first-ever triple-double against George Mason (10 points, 18 rebounds and a school-record 11 blocks).Â
"I am so thankful to Chris May, Dr. Janet Oberle and the coaching staff for believing in me and offering me this opportunity," said Flowers. "My love and appreciation for this program and all of those who contribute to it is unexplainable. I would be remiss if I did not take advantage of an opportunity that allows me to give back to the same people that have given so much to me."Â
