Fort Wayne, Ind. - Saint Louis University's ninth-ranked men's soccer Billikens completed their exhibition season with a 2-2 tie with South Carolina this afternoon at the IUPU-Fort Wayne Soccer Showcase. Sophomore forward Jack Jewsbury (Springfield, Mo. / Kickapoo) completed a two-goal second-half rally for the Billikens.
The Gamecocks had the better of the play in the first half and jumped to a 2-0 lead.
Saint Louis drew closer as Mike Hill (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Hersey) scored off a scramble in the USC box off a Billiken corner kick.
Billiken freshman Andy Pusateri (St. Louis, Mo. / Parkway South) fed Jewsbury who knotted the game with a chip over the Gamecocks' keeper. In the Showcase format, overtime was not played.
"This match proved once again that we have intelligent players," Billikens head coach Bob Warming said. "We scrapped everything we were doing at halftime, snuffed what South Carolina had been doing in the first half and came back to tie it."
"This is the best preseason event that I've ever had the pleasure to be involved in," he continued. "The crowds were large and supportive. Plus, it was a great measuring stick for us. We got to see potential final four teams like Duke, Rutgers and Indiana, and they all were terrific."
Saint Louis completed its preseason with a 1-0-1 mark. The Billikens open the regular season by hosting Vanderbilt on Fri., Sept. 1, at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
