Billiken Seniors Dominate UMass, 5-0

St. Louis - Saint Louis midfielder Ryan Wileman celebrated Senior Day with a pair of goals and an assist as the Billikens rolled past Massachusetts 5-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer this afternoon before 1,394 fans at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Every Billiken senior field player figured in the scoring as the seniors totaled nine points (3G, 3A) for the afternoon, while senior keeper Jeff Sackman played the first half of the shutout.

"Sometimes Senior Day can be too emotional, but as a group our seniors were composed and everyone was able to contribute, which makes for an enjoyable match for everyone," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. "Everything seems to be coming together for us at the right time with the rest of our regular season on the road."

Wileman got the scoring parade started in the 14th minute on a six-yard shot with freshman midfielder Eric Sweetin assisting. The Billikens spent the better portion of the half putting on a passing clinic in front of the Minutemen's goal. Freshman forward Dado Hamzagic connected from 10 yards in the 19th minute as midfielders Kyle Patterson and Andrew Moses made the initial pass to Hamzagic from left of the UMass penalty area.

The hottest Billiken lately has been DiRaimondo, who scored his sixth goal in his last four games by ramming home a 10-yard drive in the 43rd minute. Again after senior back Danny Wynn forced the action up the left flank and found Hamzagic to the left of the UMass goal, the freshman forward sent a back heel to DiRaimondo flashing in from the right flank. The Bills carried the four-goal margin to halftime as SLU out-shot the Minutemen 12-5 in the opening half.

Senior midfielder Eric Sweetin found Wileman breaking in on the right flank. Wileman drew the Minutemen's defense to him before deftly slipping a pass to Garcia breaking in on the left, and Garcia drilled a 10-yard shot inside the left post.

Saint Louis out-shot Massachusetts (4-9-0 overall, 0-3-0 A-10) 19-7. Sackman and Bills sophomore keeper Pat Disbennett each made two saves to record the shutout. Minutemen keeper Zack Simmons made four stops in the first half, and Nick Billman made three stops in the second half.

Saint Louis (7-4-1, 4-0-0) will finish the regular season with five straight road contests beginning at Duquesne on Sat., Oct. 22.
