ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis outscored Jacksonville 44-21 over the final 15:26 of the game, overcoming an 18-point deficit to post a 69-64 victory Wednesday night at Chaifetz Arena.

The victory ties the largest come-from-behind win for the Billikens since they rallied from a 20-point deficit against Houston on March 5, 2004. Saint Louis trailed North Carolina A&T by 18 points on Jan. 2, 2009, before charging back for a 60-52 triumph.

The Billikens (4-4) shot 59.3 percent (16-of-27) in the second half after connecting on just 27.3 percent (6-of-22) in the opening period. SLU was 5-of-9 from beyond the arc following the break.

Jordair Jett scored a career-high and game-high 16 points, going 7-of-10 from the field. Kyle Cassity tallied 14 points, and Dwayne Evans recorded his first collegiate double-double with career highs of 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Mike McCall registered eight assists, a career high, game high and most by a Billiken this season. Rob Loe grabbed seven rebounds.

Keith McDougald (12 points), Ayron Hardy (11) and Travis Cohn (10) led the scoring attack for Jacksonville, which slipped to 6-3.

SLU's first two second-half possessions resulted in turnovers, and Jacksonville took advantage with a pair of baskets that expanded the Dolphins' 10-point halftime lead to 35-21. Hardy and McDougald nailed 3-pointers, and McDougald followed with a back-door layup to give Jacksonville its largest lead of the night, 43-25.

Evans' 3-pointer from the top of the key finally breathed some life into the Saint Louis offense, and he followed with a fast-break dunk two possessions later to trim the Dolphins' lead to 43-30.

The Billiken defense started turning up the heat as well, holding Jacksonville scoreless on six straight and 11 of 12 possessions. Meanwhile, Loe's offensive rebound and layup began a streak that saw SLU score at least one point on 13 of 14 possessions.

Loe, Cody Ellis and Jett provided 3-pointers that pulled the Billikens to within five, 46-41, with just under 10 minutes to play. Ellis made a free throw and Cory Remekun put back a miss to slice the deficit to two before Aloys Cabell's long jumper made it 48-44 Jacksonville.

Remekun responded with a layup that just crawled over the rim, and consecutive baskets by Jett put Saint Louis in front 50-48 at the 7:24 mark. Jacksonville tied it at 50, 52 and 54 before Cassity's trey with 5:11 remaining gave the Bills the lead for good, 57-54.

After Delwan Graham scored on JU's next possession, McCall sank two free throws. Saint Louis suffered a turnover and a miss on its next two touches, but Jacksonville failed to capitalize by going scoreless on four straight possessions.

Jett's jumper and Cassity's drive and reverse layup gave the Billikens a 63-56 advantage with 2:45 remaining. Jacksonville refused to fold, getting a bucket from Cohn and Glenn Powell's dunk off a turnover to make it a one-possession score, 63-60, with 1:47 to play.

The Dolphins forced another turnover on SLU's next possession, but Cohn was whistled for a charge. Cassity made four consecutive free throws for a 67-60 margin, only to see Jacksonville answer with four charity tosses to narrow the gap to 67-64 with 13 seconds left. But McCall calmly netted two free throws with five seconds left to secure the victory.

Saint Louis grabbed a 7-4 lead on two Evans baskets and Jett's traditional three-point play. Jacksonville tallied the next five points for a 9-7 edge before Jett scored on a drive to knot the score at 9-9.

The Billikens then went almost nine minutes without a field goal, netting just four free throws while Jacksonville built a 27-13 cushion. Cassity finally broke the drought with a 3-pointer from the left wing, triggering an 8-2 spurt that narrowed the Jacksonville lead to single digits. Cassity followed the trey with two free throws, and a Paul Eckerle trifecta made it a 29-21 game. The Dolphins scored the final bucket of the half to take a 31-21 advantage to the locker room.

The Billikens travel to Springfield, Mo., Dec. 18 to take on Missouri State. Tip time at JQH Arena is 7 p.m.
