PHILADELPHIA -
Four Saint Louis players, led by Lauren Woods' 22 points, scored in double figures in the Billikens' 82-77 Atlantic 10 Conference loss to La Salle Saturday afternoon.
Woods added six rebounds and three steals for the Bills (6-12, 0-3 A-10). She became the 16th player in SLU women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points, and she now has 1,007.
Ayriell Robinson chipped in nine points.
La Salle (5-12, 1-2 A-10) got 21 points from Ashley Gale and 20 from Alexis Scott. Chelsea Conner scored 15 points, while Nadia Duncan had 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Bradley scored eight of SLU's first 14 points, including two 3-pointers, and the Billikens led 14-10 with 11:40 left in the first half. La Salle answered with a 17-2 flurry, sparked by Duncan's eight points, to claim a 27-16 advantage with 7:07 remaining.
After two free throws and another trey by Bradley in a 34-second span trimmed the Explorers' lead to 27-21, the hosts built the margin back into double digits. Trailing 35-25 at the 3:43 mark, the Billikens embarked on a 10-5 run to end the half.
Jones made a layup, and Woods followed with two free throws. After Robinson answered a La Salle bucket with a traditional three-point play to make it a five-point game, Gale and Woods traded 3-pointers, and the Explorers led 40-35 at the break.
After a slow start to the second half, both teams went on scoring spurts. La Salle led 57-48 before SLU slowly began to chip away. Gearlds' short jumper in the lane made it 63-60 Explorers with 6:08 remaining. La Salle scored the next nine points, however, to build a 72-60 cushion at the 4:19 mark.
Trailing 74-62, Saint Louis went on a run that pulled the Bills to within four points with 26 seconds left, but that was as close as they would draw.
The Billikens return to action Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Massachusetts. Tip time is 10:45 a.m. (CT).
