ST. LOUIS -- Saint Louis swimmers won 26 of 30 events, and the Billikens cruised to
easy victories in a double-dual meet against Arkansas-Little Rock and William
Jewell Saturday afternoon at Simon Recreation Center.
The Saint Louis women defeated UALR 182-93 and downed William Jewell
212-46, while the SLU men were 215.5-44.5 winners over William Jewell. Billiken
competitors won all 15 men's events and 11 of 15 women's events.
Four SLU swimmers were double winners in men's competition. Dustin
Anderson won the 1000 freestyle (9:41.38) and 400 individual medley (4:22.50);
Will Butzke captured the 100 freestyle (48.64) and 100 butterfly (52.74);
Stephen Hansen touched first in the 50 freestyle (22.10-tied) and 200 breaststroke
(2:13.84); and Patrick May won the 200 freestyle (1:48.39) and 200 backstroke
(2:03.17).
Also winning individual events were Kyle Embrey in the 100 backstroke
(56.12), Chris Mandli in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.78), Gavin Hagar in the 200
butterfly (2:00.28), Justin Pasquesi in the 500 freestyle (4:53.66) and Chad
Carmichael in 1-meter diving (270.38).
Saint Louis collected a victory in both relays. The 200 medley relay
team of May, Brian Brasser, Butzke and Pasquesi clocked a time of 1:35.73,
while the 400 freestyle relay squad of Pasquesi, May, Mike Kelly and Hagar swam
3:12.54.
In the women's meet, three Billikens won two individual events apiece.
Taylor Streid was victorious in the 200 freestyle (1:56.04) and 200 backstroke
(2:10.35); Melanie Battaglia won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.87) and 200
breaststroke (2:34.55); and Lizzy Osterman captured the 50 freestyle (24.80)
and 100 butterfly (59.04).
Jalynn Gieseke touched first in the 200
butterfly (2:13.54), Taylor Rogers won the 500 freestyle (5:18.07) and Courtney
Legastee was tops in 1-meter diving (234.30). In relay action, Streid,
Battaglia, Osterman and Gieseke took first in the 200 medley (1:51.62), while
Osterman, Streid, Gieseke and Rogers won the 400 freestyle (3:36.23).
