Box Score ST. LOUIS - Charlotte's Aidan Kirkbride scored two goals, including the golden goal in double overtime, to propel the 49ers to a 2-1 victory against the Saint Louis Billikens Saturday night in Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer action at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens end their season with a 6-10-1 overall mark and a 4-5 A-10 ledger. Charlotte, ranked 10th in the country by CollegeSoccerNews.com, improves to 13-3-2 and 6-1-2 in the league.
Saint Louis got on the board first with a tally by Robert Kristo in the 26th minute. Nick Maglasang started the scoring play when he banged a drive off the wall on a free kick. Kristo gathered the rebound and fired into the upper right 90 for a 1-0 Billiken advantage.
That remained the score until Kirkbride registered his first goal in the 55th minute. Tyler Gibson and Thomas Allen notched assists on the corner kick.
Billiken goalie Nick Shackelford, who recorded 10 saves on the night, kept it a 1-1 game with several dazzling saves near the end of regulation. Kirkbride, however, buried the game winner five minutes into the second overtime to lift Charlotte to the victory. It was the third double-overtime loss of the season for the Billikens.
Saint Louis University is the host of the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship, which begins Thursday at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. The league will announce the six-team bracket tomorrow.
