ST. LOUIS – Dan Flynn, CEO/Secretary General of U.S. Soccer and a Saint Louis
University soccer alumnus, visited the Billikens' men's soccer practice today
as they prepare for Saturday's match against No. 4 Akron.
Flynn took in
the training session and spoke with the team afterward. Among the messages he
delivered to the team was to play for the name on the front of the jersey, not
the name on the back. Additionally, he talked about the responsibility of being
a men's soccer player at SLU and the benefits that can come from it following
graduation.
“It is a
tremendous honor and a great opportunity for our players to hear from Dan Flynn,”
SLU head coach Mike McGinty said.
“Dan has been a paramount supporter of our program. Like all of our alumni, the
support and passion he has for the program are appreciated.”
Flynn has
been U.S. Soccer's CEO/Secretary General since June 15, 2000, and is charged
with running the day-to-day operations of the organization. A 1977 graduate of
SLU, Flynn played soccer for the Billikens and was a member of the 1973
national championship team.
