ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis volleyball team split contests to wrap up the Marcia E. Hamilton Classic at Chaifetz Arena Saturday. The Billikens defeated University of Louisiana at Monroe 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-13, 25-18), but lost to 10^th-ranked Nebraska 3-0 (20-25, 25-16, 25-16).

In the first game of the day, the Bills came out of the gates hot, hitting .323 in the first set against ULM. Freshman Mallory Dillon built off her impressive 20-kill debut with a five kills in the first and second sets. Dillon opened her career with five consecutive five-kill sets. The Billiken defense shut down the Warhawk attack in the third set, holding ULM to a -.077 attack percentage.

Freshman Danielle Rygelski had a great match against ULM, recording a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Dillon kept up her impressive play with 15 kills. Sophomore Meredith Boe ran the offense to the tune of 41 assists. Sophomore libero Anna Church ran the back line with 20 digs.

Against No. 10 Nebraska, SLU faced a tough front line. Four current Huskers have been named AVCA All-Americans in the past two seasons. The Billikens played tough against the perennial powerhouse. Sophomore Megan Gilbert hit .500 with 10 kills and Rygelski posted her second double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, leading SLU in both categories.

Gilbert earned All-Tournament team accolades for her efforts in the Marcia E. Hamilton Classic. In the tournament, she had 26 kills with a team-best .357 attack percentage. Gilbert also led SLU in total blocks with eight on the weekend.

Dillon also had an impressive weekend, leading SLU with 40 kills and recording six blocks of her own.

Next weekend, the Billikens travel to Morehead, Ky. to compete in the Comfort Inn Inn-vitational. Saint Louis will join the field of host school Morehead State (Sept. 6, 6 p.m.), Montana State (Sept. 7, 10 a.m.) and IUPUI (Sept. 7, 3:30 p.m.).
