PITTSBURGH – Saint Louis (12-12, 4-9 A-10) fell 3-1 to Duquesne (15-10, 7-7 A-10) on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
SET 1
Duquesne opened strong with a 25-14 win. The Billikens stayed within a few points early, but a 7-1 run from the Dukes built a lead that Saint Louis couldn't recover from.
Tea Kalajdzic led the offense with five kills in the frame, while
Jetta Brenning dished out six assists.
SET 2
The Dukes continued their momentum in the second, taking a 25-15 decision. Brenning recorded a pair of aces and added a kill, but Duquesne used a series of service aces and clean attacking to pull ahead late and secure the two-set advantage.
SET 3
Saint Louis battled back in the third, earning a 25-20 win behind balanced play from the front row. The Billikens turned in five team blocks and four service aces, including two from Brenning, to flip the match's momentum. Kalajdzic notched four kills in the set, while
Addy Polk added a late ace to seal the frame.
SET 4
Despite a competitive start with five early ties, Duquesne closed out the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth. Kalajdzic and Brenning combined for eight kills in the final frame, but the Dukes' offense stayed efficient to clinch the match.
