DAVIDSON, N.C. – Saint Louis dropped an 89-54 decision at Davidson Saturday night in an Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball contest at Belk Arena. It was SLU's first-ever meeting against the A-10 newcomer.
SLU dips to 8-8 overall and 0-3 in the A-10. Davidson, which entered the game leading the A-10 and were ranked seventh nationally in scoring offense, improves to 11-3 and 2-1 in league play.
Freshman forward Milik Yarbrough led the Billikens in scoring for the third game in a row. He had 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Freshman guard Davell Roby scored in double figures for the second straight game with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Davidson connected on 12 of its 22 3-pointers, while SLU was just 3-of-19 from long range. Brian Sullivan hit four 3-pointers, including three in the first four minutes of the game.
Davidson was leading 37-14 with 5:41 remaining in the first half until the Billikens put together an 11-2 spurt to close the opening session. Roby had a basket inside and Marcus Bartley hit a trey. Austin McBroom and Yarbrough hit free throws, and Yarbrough and Ash Yacoubou had bucket in the closing minutes of the half to trim the Davidson lead to 39-25 at the break.
The Wildcats maintained their double-digit advantage throughout the second half and posted the 35-point win.
Saint Louis returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 14, when they host Duquesne at Chaifetz Arena in a 7 p.m. tip. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Midwest.Â
