Yacoubou's Double-Double Lifts Billikens

ST. LOUIS – Ash Yacoubou posted a career-high 18 points and added 10 rebounds for his second double-double as Saint Louis registered a 78-69 victory over Duquesne Wednesday night at Chaifetz Arena.

With the win, the Billikens improve to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Duquesne dips to 6-9 and 1-3 in the league.

Tonight's game fell on the 100th anniversary of the start of the Billiken basketball program. As part of the anniversary celebration, SLU unveiled an All-Century Team, which can be found here.

On Wednesday, the Billikens registered 22 assists, a season high, on 25 field goals. Five players scored in double figures and 11 Billikens scored at least one point. SLU's 11 3-pointers made tied a season high set just two games ago against George Washington.

Yacoubou was 5-of-10 from the field, 3-of-5 from long range and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to account for his 18 points. Marcus Bartley tied his career high with 13 points, all of them coming in the first half. He was on fire from 3-point range, draining 4-of-7 from distance in the opening stanza.

Mike Crawford scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting.  Milik Yarbrough was 5-of-10 from the field for 11 points, while Davell Roby chipped in 10 points.

Duquesne, which shot a dismal 13-of-34 from the free-throw line, was led by Micah Mason's 12 points. He and backcourt teammate Derrick Colter were held to just 3-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. They entered the game as one of the top 3-point shooting guard tandems in the country.

In the first half, Duquesne led by as many as seven early on before the Billikens closed on a 13-2 rally to take a 42-29 lead into halftime. SLU drained nine 3-pointers in the half, including four by Bartley. Yacoubou connected on a three as time expired to give the Billikens a 13-point lead at the break.

SLU stretched out to a 15-point lead midway through the second half on a basket by Austin Gillmann. The teams traded baskets until a late Duquesne rally pulled it to within eight in the final seconds, but the Dukes would not get any closer and the Billikens held on for the win.

Saint Louis resumes A-10 play on Saturday when it travels to Dayton to face the Flyers. Tip time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. (CT), and the game will be televised on NBCSN.
