THE BASICS
Jackie Kemph scored a career- and game-high 21 points, Sadie Stipanovich tallied 15 of her 18 points in the second half, and Saint Louis shot a torrid 60 percent following intermission to claim a 62-52 victory over Indiana State Wednesday night at the Hulman Center. The Billikens improved to 4-0, while the Sycamores slipped to 1-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
--Indiana State scored the first three points of the fourth quarter to take just its second lead of the game, 38-37.
--The Billikens responded with a 13-4 run, including 11 points from Sadie Stipanovich, to regain command with a 50-42 lead.
--SLU secured the victory by making 10-of-12 from the foul line down the stretch.
--Saint Louis scored on its first four possessions and led 8-4 before settling for a 12-10 edge after one quarter.
--The Billikens used a 7-2 run, including five points from Jackie Kemph, to take a 19-12 lead late in the second quarter. But Indiana State scored the last seven points of the period to forge a 19-19 deadlock at intermission.
--Kemph kept the hot hand early in the third quarter, scoring seven points in an 11-0 spurt that gave Saint Louis a 30-19 lead. Jamesia Price's 3-pointer made it 33-21, but Indiana State rattled off a 14-4 run – including three 3-pointers in four possessions – to slice the SLU lead to 37-35 after three.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
--The Billikens have won their first two road games of the season for the first time since the 1999-2000 campaign.
--Saint Louis is 4-0 for the first time since 2006-07; that team began the season 5-0.
--Jackie Kemph was 7-of-12 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the foul line in her 21-point effort. She added four assists.
--Sadie Stipanovich was 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from the stripe. She grabbed five rebounds.
--Jamesia Price registered 11 points and a game-high three steals. She tied Olivia Jakubicek for team-high honors with seven rebounds.
--Denisha Womack added six boards to help the Billikens out-rebound the Sycamores 40-31.
--SLU outscored ISU 34-16 in points in the paint.
--The hot second half lifted the Bills to 44.4 percent field goal shooting for the game.
--The Billikens finished 20-of-26 from the free throw line for 76.9 percent.
--Saint Louis held Indiana State to 29.1 percent shooting overall and 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from 3-point range.
