THE BASICS
--Sadie Stipanovich scored a Saint Louis season-high 24 points, but SIUE handed the Billikens a 71-64 defeat Monday night at the Vadalabene Center.
--SLU dipped to 7-1 with the loss, while SIUE improved to 4-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
--Jackie Kemph tallied six early points to stake Saint Louis to an 8-6 lead. SIUE scored on six of its last nine first-quarter possessions and held an 18-14 advantage at the end of one stanza.
--The Billikens began the second quarter with an 11-4 run, including eight points from Sadie Stipanovich, to go on top 25-22.
--A 6-2 spurt put SIUE back in front, 28-27. Three free throws and a Jenny Vliet 3-pointer allowed Saint Louis to take a 33-30 halftime edge.
--The Cougars used a 10-1 run to take a 47-41 third-quarter lead, but Denisha Womack's 3-pointer at the buzzer cut the margin in half, 47-44, heading into the fourth quarter.
--The Billikens regained the upper hand, 50-49, with six points by Stipanovich early in the fourth. Later, Kemph drove for a bucket and a 64-63 Saint Louis lead.
--SIUE sank two free throws on its next possession to go back on top for good. The Cougars left the door open by missing five consecutive attempts from the stripe, but the Billikens could not take advantage.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
--Stipanovich was 7-of-13 from the field and 10-of-10 from the foul line. The 10-of-10 effort is the second-best perfect free throw performance in the A-10 this season.
--Kemph tallied 15 points, four assists and two steals.
--Womack tossed in 10 points.
--Jenny Vliet had eight points and tied Maddison Gits (season high) and Stipanovich for team-high rebounding honors with seven boards.
--Stipanovich gathered a SLU season-high five offensive rebounds.
--Gits registered a career-high three assists.
