Billikens Fall at Fordham, 83-65

BRONX, N.Y. – Saint Louis dropped an 83-65 decision at Fordham Saturday in Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball action at Rose Hill Gym in the Bronx, N.Y.

The Billikens dip to 10-13 overall and 2-8 in league play, while Fordham snaps a nine-game losing streak to improve to 6-15 and 1-9 in the league.

Four players scored in double figures for the Bills. Davell Roby led the way with a career-high 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Mike Crawford hit 6 of his 8 shots from the floor, including a pair of treys, en route to 15 points.

Austin McBroom buried three treys to help account for his 13 points, while Ash Yacoubou recorded 10 points.

Six different Billikens drained at least one 3-pointer. Austin Gillmann led SLU with a career-high five rebounds.

Fordham was led by Chris Sengfelder and Eric Paschall, who tallied 22 points apiece. The Rams shot a sizzling 66.7 percent (14-21) in the second half, 50 percent (23-46) for the game.

Saint Louis trailed by four at halftime and quickly tied it up early in the second half on baskets by Milik Yarbrough and Roby. But Fordham would go on a 10-2 run to build an eight-point lead.

The Billikens climbed back to within four when Yacoubou and Crawford connected on jumpers. Fordham again gave itself a cushion by engineering an 11-0 run.

A Roby 3-point play, Gillmann triple and two Roby free throws pulled SLU within four once again at 58-52 with 8:50 to play. Fordham once again responded, however, and SLU was unable to get any closer to the lead as the Rams posted the 18-point win.

Several early Billiken turnovers and hot shooting by the Rams gave Fordham a 12-0 lead at the start. But Saint Louis climbed back thanks in part to 3-pointer.

Yacoubou and Crawford got the Billikens on the board, then SLU went on a 9-0 run and trailed 17-15 with 10 minutes left in the opening half. Later, a Marcus Bartley 3-pointer gave the Billikens five players who recorded at least one triple at that point midway through the first half.

Fordham received 11 first-half points from Sengfelder and led 33-29 at halftime.

SLU returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts Dayton (17-5, 7-3 A-10) at Chaifetz Arena. Tip time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. (CT), and the game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
