SLU to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness with Billikens Pink Out Game

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University women's basketball will do its part to heighten breast cancer awareness Saturday, Jan. 16, at the annual Billikens Pink Out Game. Atlantic 10 Conference rival Dayton, which reached the NCAA Championship quarterfinals last year, is the opponent. Chaifetz Arena doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the game begins at 7.

The Billikens will wear pink uniforms. All player jerseys will be auctioned off during the evening, with proceeds benefitting the Saint Louis University Cancer Center. The SLU Department of Athletics will distribute 5,000 free rally towels, and fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing pink.

St. Louis Cardinals mascot Fredbird, Disney characters and the American Eagle Credit Union mascot will be on hand to interact with fans in the Arena concourse prior to the game. Other pregame activities in the concourse include balloon making, face painting and poster making; a photo booth; an autograph opportunity with the Billiken softball team; and stations hosted by representatives of several St. Louis community organizations.

Saint Louis women's basketball alumni – including SLU's 2016 Atlantic 10 Conference Legend, Julie Hacker-Buehne – will be recognized at halftime. After the game, the Billiken women's basketball team will hold an autograph session.

Last year's Billikens Pink Out Game drew a SLU women's basketball record crowd of 7,184, which also was an A-10 women's basketball season high. The goal for this season's event is to sell out 10,600-seat Chaifetz Arena.

“Women's college basketball continues to do remarkable things to raise awareness of breast cancer,” SLU head coach Lisa Stone said. “It's a privilege for everyone in our program and throughout the athletics department to contribute to the battle against this disease.

“Last year's Billikens Pink Out was a tremendous success, and we believe this year's event will be even bigger and better,” Stone said. “The atmosphere in Chaifetz Arena will be electric before, during and after the game, and I'm confident that our fans will experience a fun-filled evening at this very meaningful event. Our players and staff look forward to playing in front of another record crowd.”
