THE BASICS

--Aaliyah Covington scored a career-high and game-high-tying 21 points to lead Saint Louis to a 70-56 victory over Dayton Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena.

--The Billikens, who defeated Dayton for the first time ever in Atlantic 10 Conference competition, improved to 14-4 overall and 4-1 in the A-10 with their fourth consecutive victory. Dayton (8-8, 1-4) dropped its third straight decision and fifth in its last six outings.

--Jamesia Price tallied 13 points for the Billikens, who connected on a season-high 11 3-pointers. Denisha Womack pulled down nine rebounds, Covington added a career-high eight boards, and Jackie Kemph dished out 10 assists.

--The Billikens Pink Out crowd of 9,985 set a Saint Louis women's basketball record, shattering the previous mark of 7,184 set last season. The SLU Department of Athletics promoted breast cancer awareness before and during the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

--Saint Louis led by a point at halftime and trailed by the same margin after Dayton scored on its first possession of the third quarter.

--The Billikens then took command with a 17-3 run that ended with SLU on top 41-28. Denisha Womack buried two 3-pointers during the run, which also featured a trey and conventional three-point play by Jenny Vliet and a triple from Jamesia Price.

--Dayton cut the lead to six with an 11-4 spurt, but an Aaliyah Covington triple in the waning seconds put SLU on top 48-39 heading into the fourth quarter.

--The lead remained between six and nine points until Covington connected from beyond the arc at the 4:35 mark to make it 58-46.

--Dayton scored the next four points, but that was as close as the Flyers would get. Covington hit another 3-pointer with 1:43 left to pad the lead to 61-50, and the Billikens retained control the rest of the way.

--Neither team shot well in the first half; the Billikens connected on just 26.7 percent from the field, while Dayton shot just 31 percent.

--Saint Louis led 11-5 midway through the first quarter and 13-7 in the final minute. Dayton's Lauren Cannatelli hit three free throws with a second left to make it 13-10.

--A three-point play by Covington stretched the SLU lead back to six, 18-12, with 7:19 remaining in the second quarter.

--After Dayton used a 7-0 run to take a 19-18 lead with 6:12 left, the teams went cold and combined for just 10 more points the rest of the period. The Billikens led 24-23 at the break.
