St. Louis, Mo. | Chaifetz Arena
THE BASICS
Saint Louis rallied from a 15-point deficit with less than five minutes to go to make it interesting late before falling to Duquesne 78-67 Saturday in Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball action at Chaifetz Arena.
The loss dips SLU to 8-13 overall and 3-6 in the league. Duquesne picks up the second win against the Billikens this season and improves to 15-7 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Ash Yacoubou hit three 3-pointers at the outset to give SLU a 9-0 early lead and finished with 18 points.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
-- Yacoubou hit a career-high five 3-pointers (5-of-7) to help account for his team-high 18 points. He also led the Billikens with eight rebounds.
-- Mike Crawford scored all 14 of his points in the second half. He was 5-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from the arc.
-- Miles Reynolds scored 10 points to finish in double figures, thanks in part to a 6-of-8 performance from the stripe.
-- Brett Jolly finished with a career-high six rebounds.
-- Reggie Agbeko was 3-of-4 from the field and 3-of-4 from the stripe for nine points. He also corralled four rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-- Yacoubou got the fans into it early on with three straight 3-pointers as the Billikens opened up a 9-0 lead.
-- Duquesne responded with a 7-0 run before Yacoubou hit another triple. Yacoubou had scored all 12 of the Billikens' points as they led 12-7 at the under 12 media timeout of the first half.
-- Jermaine Bishop, Reynolds and Agbeko all had baskets during a 10-0 Billiken run that gave SLU a 12-point lead, 19-7, with 10:42 remaining in the half.
-- That would be the largest Billiken lead of the game, as SLU would go without a field goal the final six minutes of the half.
-- Duquesne manufactured a 12-0 run late in the first half and took a 30-27 lead into the break.
-- Aaron Hines sank a 3-pointer early in the second half to bring the Billikens within one, 33-32, with 17:34 left in the game.
-- That is as close to the lead as the Billikens would get, however, as Duquesne led the rest of the way.
-- The Billikens didn't go away quietly though. With the Dukes up by 15 with 4:41 left, SLU went on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a Yacoubou tradition 3-point play.
-- A Crawford layup with less than a minute to go made it 69-65 Duquesne, but the Dukes hit their free throws and pulled away down the stretch to win by 11.
DUQUESNE LEADERS
-- The senior backcourt duo of Micah Mason and Derrick Colter scored 23 points apiece … Mar'Qywell Jackson chipped in 10 points.
