THE BASICS
Saint Louis freshman guard Jermaine Bishop hit a jumper with five seconds left in overtime to give the Billikens a 79-77 win over George Mason Wednesday night in Fairfax, Va. The Patriots had the final shot, but a block from Marcus Bartley on a Mason layup sealed the victory for the Billikens.
With the win, Saint Louis improves to 9-16 overall and 4-9 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. George Mason falls to 9-17 and 3-10 in the league.Â
Bishop led four Billikens in double figures with 20 points. Ash Yacoubou was 4-of-4 from the arc and contributed 15 points. Mike Crawford also nailed four treys and finished with 14 points, while Reggie Agbeko finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
-- Bishop was 10-of-18 from the field to account for his 20 points. His 10 field goals were a career high. Bishop tied his career bests of six assists and six rebounds. He played a career-high 42 minutes.
-- Yacoubou shot 5-of-8 from the floor and drained all four of his 3s to finish with 15 points. Â
-- Crawford's four 3-pointers tied a career best.
-- Agbeko hit 5-of-7 from the floor and led SLU with eight rebounds.
-- SLU's 33 field goals tied for the most this season, matching the Billikens' total in the win against Davidson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-- The Billikens led by as much as 19 points in the first half and 17 points midway through the second before George Mason stormed back to force overtime.
-- With less than 10 minutes left in regulation, George Mason went on a 10-run to pull close.
-- The Patriots briefly took the lead with 90 seconds left, but Marcus Bartley buried a clutch 3-pointer to put the Billikens back on top with less than a minute remaining.
-- Mason's Jalen Jenkins scored with 44 seconds left to make it 72-72. Neither team was able to connect on their final possessions of regulation and the game headed to overtime.
-- Yacoubou scored the first three points of overtime as SLU never trailed in the extra session.
-- A 3-pointer by Mason's Kameron Murrell tied the game at 77-77 with 32 seconds left.
-- Bishop waited with the ball at the center circle until there was roughly seven seconds remaining on the shot clock. He drove, pulled back at the left elbow, and buried the jump for the game-winning shot.
-- Otis Livington had Mason's final shot, but his drive to the basket was defended by Bartley and Davell Roby and SLU escaped with the victory.

-- Jalen Jenkins led the Patriots with 18 points. He also corralled 11 boards finish with a double-double.
-- Shevon Thompson also secured a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
