THE BASICS
--Maddison Gits registered a career-high 15 points to lead three Saint Louis double-digit scorers, but a 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime gave Western Kentucky a 78-76 win over the Billikens in a WNIT third-round game Friday night at Chaifetz Arena.
--Atlantic 10 Conference co-champion Saint Louis concluded its record-breaking season with a 26-8 mark.
--Conference USA runner-up Western Kentucky, which advances to the quarterfinals to take on South Dakota, is 27-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
--Saint Louis led by eight at halftime and took its largest lead of the game when Jenny Vliet nailed a 3-pointer on the opening possession of the third quarter for a 41-30 advantage.
--Western Kentucky used an 18-7 run to forge a 48-48 tie late in the third, but SLU scored on two straight possessions and took a 52-49 lead to the fourth quarter.
--The Billikens maintained the lead until an Ivy Brown jumper put WKU in front 63-62.
--Two free throws by Brown made it 65-62 before Olivia Jakubicek drained a 3-pointer to tie it with 2:21 to play.
--The Lady Toppers led by two points twice in the final two minutes only to see Sadie Stipanovich knot the score both times, the second time by swishing a pair of free throws with two seconds remaining.
--There were six lead changes in overtime, and neither team led by more than two points.
--A short bucket by Jalynn McClain gave Western Kentucky a 75-74 lead with 15 seconds to play.
--Following a timeout, Jakubicek took a pass from Aaliyah Covington on the right wing and connected from 17 feet with just 0.9 second left.
--After another timeout, Sidnee Bopp sank the game-winning shot from the left corner.
--Western Kentucky scored the first 10 points of the game, but Saint Louis stormed back. Jamesia Price buried a triple in the closing seconds of the first quarter to tie it at 18.
--After the Lady Toppers held a two-point edge early in the second quarter, the Billikens went on an 18-8 run and took a 38-30 advantage to the locker room.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
--Maddison Gits was 5-of-8 from the field and 5-of-5 from the foul line (career-high five free throws made) in her 15-point effort. Gits added five rebounds.
--Jackie Kemph scored 14 points, tied her career high with nine rebounds and added seven assists.
--Sadie Stipanovich contributed 12 points and nine rebounds (four offensive).
--Denisha Womack pulled down nine rebounds.
--Jordan Frantz tallied eight points and three assists.
--Aaliyah Covington recorded a career-high five assists.
--Jamesia Price concluded her career as the Billikens' career steals leader (202), No. 3 on SLU's career assists chart (407) and No. 9 on the Bills' career 3-point field goals list (101).
--Denisha Womack finished her career ranked ninth on Saint Louis' all-time free throw percentage list (.753) and 10th on the Billikens' all-time rebounds list (633).
--SLU established school single-season records for 3-point field goals (205), free throw percentage (.763) and assists (573).
--The Billikens earned a 46-33 advantage on the boards, including 15 offensive rebounds.
--Saint Louis shot 89 percent (16-of-18) from the free throw line.
